I wasn’t sure if I would be blogging about this in 2020 or not – but here we are.
This blog post is a bit outside the norm of what I typically post here. I tend to focus on supporting you with information and ideas to help you on your journey as a parent. I am breaking away from my norm because I am super excited about something and I want to share it with you.
Please humor me for a moment!
I think you will see there is something in here for you to get excited about, too,
and that it does relate to parenting.
I am part of a neat business challenge that happens in September. I had so much fun and success last year, I’m doing it again!
Even if you are not a ‘mompreneur’ or an entrepreneur/small business owner, I still have what I think is an exciting opportunity for you:
I would like to be your Accountability Partner in September –
and possibly beyond.
During September and October I will be on my Facebook page checking in and holding people accountable for their personal challenges.
What does that mean?
I am trying to grow my business and stretch myself out of the routines I have fallen into. I am going big because this is part of the Stretch Yourself Challenge and honestly during 2020, we could use all the encouragement we can get.
Is there something you are trying to stretch yourself to do? Maybe you want more “ME” time or to delegate some housework. So you want to yell less, train for a 10K, or maybe to make more (some?!) time for your hobby?
We could encourage each other on Facebook! I’ll commit to popping on the page at least 3 times a week to look for your comments – and hopefully your encouragement and support 😉. You commit to posting your struggles and wins – only the ones you feel like admitting. No pressure!
What do you think?
I am not giving up my 1:1 Parent Coaching, webinars, or my courses! In fact, launching my “Organizing Your Disorganized Student” course is one of the challenges I am working on in September -stay tuned 😎.
If you are an entrepreneur/small business owner – you might want to jump in and join this September’s Stretch Yourself Challenge!
Although the live challenge is closed, you can still get the Self-Study. This includes a great eBook with details for each challenge listed and access to the Forum! You can click here ▶ Stretch Yourself Challenge ◀ for details.
There are so many challenges to choose from here are just a few:
- Share Your Expertise & Promote it Like Crazy
- Set up Google Analytics Reporting
- Gather & Publish Testimonials
- Create a YouTube Channel
- Plan a Micro Membership Program
I recommend the Stretch Yourself Challenge because while the main idea is that you will be stretching yourself to grow your business, for me, interacting with the community in the Forum – which you have access to with the self-study – is the icing on the cake!
Not only are participants posting their wins, but they are asking for help and offering great feedback to specific questions. I’ve seen people ask what theme to use to improve my website? Which tech should I be using for my shopping cart/affiliate program/to host online classes?
So, what do you say?
Do you want support for something you are tackling
or are you up for a business stretch?
Either way, I’d love to hear from you on my Helping Parents Parent Facebook page. I’m determined to succeed -with all the support I can get, of course! 😊

Last year I had a few people take me up on the accountability. We have met in person/virtually or messaged each other to stay accountable well past September. So what are you waiting for?
PS If you read this far and don’t use facebook… feel free to comment on this blog or send me an email at DrRenee@HelpingParentsParent.com. I’d love to be your accountability partner!
Anita Hampl says
Dr. Renee,
I know that September is your busy month anyway with all of your civic and community commitments. Throw in a little pandemic and it’s a wonder anyone gets out of bed in the mornings. But thank you for pushing through to the Challenge because you know it will ultimately serve your desired audience, local and worldwide, who need to hear from you.
Thanks for sharing your energy and humor with the group!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Thank you Anita for your kind comments! Yes, some days it would be nice to pull the covers up and read a good book 😉 The SYC community provides great motivation for moving forward and celebrating successes! And that’s what I have found within my community when someone steps up for an accountability partner (mine or some else’s)! Glad we’re on the same team! 🙂
Dr. Jodie says
I LOVE the tie-in to personal life challenges! Way to support your community! And I love how you shared your business excitement with your non-business community. I am definitely going to follow that lead with my business.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Thank you! I thought it would be a great way to support my community with whatever challenges they want to tackle while getting a little encouragement to tackle mine 😉 I bet your community will love you as an accountability partner.
Paul Taubman says
Sometimes for me it a finding that fine line between business and personal life, so that in itself can be a challenge.
As a fellow participant this year, and last year, and the year before that… it is always a great way to lead up to the the end of the year full steam ahead! Here we are in September and I know my momentum will continue through to the end of the year.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
That balance can be so challenging. I’ve learned to lean towards one direction and then back towards the other as life throws things my way instead of constantly trying to make it a well-balanced scale.
Yes! The SYC challenge is a great way to charge into the end of the year! Go Team Shine!
Karin Crompton says
I love the idea that accountability can (of course!) be tied into encouragement, and how right you are that we can use extra of that in 2020. And YES, our personal challenges are indeed stretches as well. Nice tie-in. 🙂 It’s great being teammates with you in this September journey! #goteamshine
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Oh Karin – I didn’t even think to tie it into 2020 -but you are SO right! The loving care and little nudges that an accountability partner can share to move us forward is really just what we need in this uncertain year!
Prizes in the SYC challenge help, too! #GoTeamShine!
Luanna says
I want to delegate my housework! Sometimes that is a stretch too! I like how you made this post not just about business. There are so many ways that we can stretch ourselves that help up us grow personally.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Lu – Me, too! I would love to delegate my housework! Fortunately, I taught and encouraged my kids to do chores from an early age (and I believe it’s never too late). However, when they grow up and move out of the house, I’m going to be stuck doing a lot more than I’m used to…
Thanks for being persistent and coming back to comment. I’ve sent the “Captcha” back to math class for a few days 🙂
Robin Smith says
I like how you are offering accountability for your readers if they want to follow along with the challenge but are not in Kelly’s group. Great idea and something I might consider in the future. Thanks for the brilliant idea.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Robin – it’s great when even just a few members of your community take you up on the accountability offer. For me it is different than 1:1 or group coaching. Some of the parents who took me up on the offer actually have grown kids (not necessarily who I typically speak to) and are working on things like starting/growing a business, eating healthier, or running a 10K. Can’t wait to see how your community responds!
Val Selby says
Way to turn it into something your community can use! Personal growth is so important and there are so many goals you can help others achieve with some accountability.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Val – I agree! It surprised me how much a little accountability can go a long way when it is set up well. Thanks for commenting-especially since we’re on opposite teams! 😉 I love how we can all support each other and still try to win (and I’m not competitive, really!). Thanks for continuing to promote living a Bold life – you are helping so many!
Adalia John says
Your post was heart felt. I’m sure your tribe will feel as if you are speaking directly to them. Your offer of accountability … Brilliant!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Thank you Adalia – accountability and community really help, when we are willing and/or able to ask for that help. Reading your post, I know that can be hard for many. Glad you’re on this SYC challenge journey with me!
Lori Winslow says
It is so inspiring to see how you are using this challenge for yourself and how you are using it to encourage the parents you serve as well. And your new course looks very interesting, good luck :).
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Lori – it was great putting a real person/face with the emails I’ve been receiving from you. I’ve followed you for a while and am looking forward to seeing what great things your future membership brings to the world!
Jennifer Burke says
I love how you’ve shown that we can all stretch – in business and life – and that community and accountability helps us get there. I know I’ve enjoyed our accountability check-ins! And I’m sure your community will benefit so much from your stretch challenges this year too.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
I’m so glad our paths crossed last year in Angela’s LLYOU and Kelly’s SYC challenge. Our accountability check-ins have certainly been motivating! Can’t wait to see how much you accomplish in this SYC challenge and look forward to sending happy-dance GIFs on Oct 1st!
GO COWBOYS! (Sorry, couldn’t resist) GO TEAM SHINE, too! At least we can agree on that one 😉
Teresa Miller says
“Interacting with the community in the Forum…is icing on the cake.” Yes, indeed, and what RICH icing it is! Working online we can easily fall into staying trapped in our own little bubble. One of the great side benefits of the SYC – beyond the actual challenges – is that it pushes us to create connections with others. That’s a benefit that lasts far beyond 30 days!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
It’s CHOCOLATE rich icing! 😉 I kept in touch with some of the people I met in my Triads last year and we were able to continue to motivate each other throughout the year – definitely a benefit that lasted long beyond the official September challenge!
Kelly Crompton says
What a great way to bring the SYC to your community even if it’s not about business! I love the accountability this challenge has offered me, and it’s wonderful that you are expanding that to your Facebook page for personal challenges and successes.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Kelly -it’s been fun to meet you and watch you stretch this year! The accountability is key! Well, and the Brownies (highly motivated to be a “Finisher” for those brownies)! Being able to bring a piece of the SYC to my community is like a little gift I can share that benefits all of us. Looking forward to all that you will accomplish!
Lynn says
One of the greatest (and there are many) things about the Stretch Yourself Challenge (SYC) is being accountable with/in the community we are working with. It gives us an “I’m not alone in this” feeling that far surpasses the challenge actions by themselves. Your offer to be an accountability partner is one of the most valuable assets to growth of any kind. The SYC is by far a great way to stretch and grow personally in addition to offering a step-by-step guide to building our dreams. Dr. Renee you are a wonderful inspiration to many. Thank You!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Thank you Lynn – I was truly inspired by you during our recent Triad and your courageous steps to host a summit! Community IS so important and helps us achieve many things we might not otherwise achieve. Can’t wait to see what amazing things you accomplish!
Melissa Brown, MD says
Loved this post. Maybe it was, itself, a stretch outside your comfort zone to post something a little different from what you usually write about. 🤔 I love that you offered to be accountability partners with anyone who needs one. Keep stretching and never give up!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Yes -it was a stretch! I wanted to be part of this extra credit SYC challenge, but it didn’t really tie in with the majority of parents I work with (although I’m learning that many are entrepreneurs/mompreneurs)! I had to be creative and find a way to make it meaningful and then I ended up with a Win-Win. After the official SYC challenge is over, it would be great to have an accountability partner to nudge me along (whether it’s in business or in cooking more dinners for my family)-and why not do it with members of my already awesome community!?
Looking forward to your future summit!
Gabby Conde says
Congratulations on launching your course this go-round in the SYC, Dr. Renee! That’s awesome to hear!
I was stuck for awhile too and, in taking the challenge, have gotten past a few hurdles and the same old routine. It’s fun to take the challenge with community for the encouragement and drive to get things done.
I look forward to hear how things go for you during the challenge as you create awesome things in the world!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Thank you for popping in Gabby! Glad to hear you have jumped some hurdles and broken the out of your routine ‘rut’. Looking forward to seeing about your successes, not only in this challenge, but beyond!
Tara says
Dr. Renee, I did the SYC challenge last year, too. That was my first year and it was so much fun. Your comment about the comments people are asking in our forum are also a wonderful learning part of the whole experience. It’s fun to see all the different projects people are working on. to your success and finishing the SYC this year!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
It was great being in a Triad with you and getting to know you after following you for a while 🙂
Yes – the variety of projects and of experience people has is fascinating to me. We’re in the home Stretch on our way to the finish line – I think it’s going to be a good day! 😉
Benecia Ponder says
Being a parent definitely causes you to stretch🙂 Congratulations on the momentum you are building in your business. And, kudos to you for stepping up and opening up the space for other moms to stretch to new levels in their own lives. Keep up the great work!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Thank you Benecia! You are an inspiration in the SYC challenge – can’t wait to see what you do next!
Tish Lee says
You did a great job tying the challenge into your market and making it relatable to them and then offering to be their accountability partner – love this idea! I know you’ve had some computer problems and I just want to say kudos to you for not letting those stop you and be an excuse to not keep stretching and making progress! You rock 🙂
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Ah yes- first world computer problems… and then captcha problems (I think captcha skipped math on the day they were learning addition!).
I have had a few accountability partners that have helped me achieve more than I would have on my own (not all business which is how I came up with the idea of stretching it beyond the SYC)!
Super excited to be on your team again this year. GO TEAM SHINE!!!
Brooke says
This is awesome. Count me in for this and for the Organizing one for sure!!
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
You’re on Brooke!
Let’s pick a date and time to connect for a few moments to hammer out a plan. I’m serious – I’ll hold you accountable if you’ll hold me accountable!
Yat-Yee says
I answered Dr. Renee’s request last year to be an accountability partner and she has been amazing.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Can you believe it’s been a full year since you responded to my request for an accountability partner last year? It’s been fabulous, we have certainly stretched and grown – so glad we are on this journey together!
Tim says
Well written. Thanks.
Dr Renee Cohn Jones says
Glad you liked it! Thanks for stopping by to comment 🙂
